Mathematics GCSE resit

Mathematics is how we make sense of the physical world. Our intention is to deliver a learning journey that inspires curiosity and enables students to be fluent and confident mathematicians.  All students will have the chance to experience success and will enjoy being challenged as they develop as critical thinkers.

This course is designed for those students who need to resit their GCSE Mathematics. This is an intensive one year programme designed to boost your mathematical skill and understanding to enable you to get the Grade 4 or above that you missed in Year 11.

How is our curriculum sequenced

For our GCSE Maths resit course, we follow a general curriculum guide that outlines the key topics and skills needed for success. However, we adapt and tailor the course each year based on the specific prior GCSE results of the cohort. This allows us to focus on the areas where students need the most support, ensuring that teaching is targeted and responsive to their individual starting points.

Most students will be entered for the GCSE resit in the November exam series. If a student does not achieve a grade 4 at this point, we use their November results to identify specific gaps and further refine our teaching approach. This targeted preparation continues throughout the year to give them the best possible chance of success in the June exam series.

How should I revise for this course?

The best way to revise for Maths is to do Maths. We strongly recommend using Sparx Maths:

Students will be set Sparx Maths every week to complete as independent study. They will also be set a weekly past exam paper to complete.

The following websites are also useful for revision:

Students are not required to purchase any revision guides as there are many free resources available online (see above). However, should you wish to purchase any revision guides, these are the recommended ones to purchase:
